A new group, new name, same goal!

It’s official, we are changing. The name but not the hat yet as we are still trying to get a new hat produced. Now we need additional artwork. Not our most burning issue.

We look forward to having an additional location to alternate meetings to mix it up as well as creating an opportunity for others to participate.

Starting in January, the 25th, we are meeting at the Sea Pines Country Club and returning to Spanish Wells to enjoy the water view in the spring.

Over the past seven meetings you have raised over $100,000 for local needs. What was our goal? “We measure success by giving back to people just trying to go thru life.” Based on the generosity of people on the island and members from other states, we have made a great start.

The website is intended to explain the process, approach and expectations. If you see a question, send a note. We will keep the process simple and make a decision quickly.

Please pass the word along and bring a friend to our next meeting.

PFS Check Presentation

About a dozen members visited Pockets Full of Sunshine to get a photo of our big check. More importantly, we learned about what PFS is doing in our community. Leaders shared and explained what they were doing to coach others to learn how to contribute in the our local area.

Check out their online store for items produced or contact them for a need that you may have.

For the members, it was rewarding to see what was being done by PFS for the “Rays” and overwhelming to be greeted with such gratitude.

October 2022 Meeting

Our fall meeting was held in the Calibouge Room of the Spanish Wells Club. Matt and Dave were kind enough to provide refreshments.

Our first update was from Angie Brown sharing how our collective donation in July helped the Safe Harbour organization in our community.

This quarter, we started with Gary Bezilla presenting Pockets Full of Sunshine. Secondly, Craig Ostergard will be shared about Operations Patriot Forward Operating Base. Our third presenter was Bob Elliot explaining how we can assist the South Caroline Nurse Retention Incentive program in our area.

A reporter from The Post and Courier of Charleston attended with a photographer to capture the essence of our meeting and purpose.

The ballots resulted in Pockets Full of Sunshine receiving 48% of the total vote.  Always a tough decision to determine which organization to help. The vote is always so close. If 5 of the votes would have shifted, we would have had a different outcome. The runner ups will be eligible for donations in the future.

Your final donations are not in yet, but we should be close to $13,000 sent to the Charity. Generally it will take about 10 days to sort out the matching funds eligible. We informed the charity of the range of funds as well as the timing.

PEP Check Presentation

About twenty members gathered to present the over-size check to the representative of the Programs for Exceptional People at the Spanish Wells Club. PEP will be returning July 14th to share how the funds will be used in the organization. The Hilton Head Magazine of Hilton Head attended the meeting to capture a picture as well as share their intention to run a story about the group’s impact to the community for the first year.

April ’22 Meeting

During our April meeting we heard from Dr. Anna Ponder, Vice Chancellor of USCB, who shared with the group how our last donation is being used to provide scholarship assistance for Hilton Head Nursing students. Our February donation was directed to the Hilton Head Hospital Auxiliary who is involved with two missions; one to provide assistance directly to patients and a second to provide nursing scholarships.

Three members shared our next opportunity to help the local groups performing the heavy lifting for the community. There are several opportunities on the island and it was great that three members took the time to share where they felt was the most current need or area we could help this quarter.

Members voted and raised the following funds for local groups.

Programs for Exceptional People $13,000
Operation Patriots FOB $1,100
Sandalwood Food Pantry $1,100

February awarded $15,000 to local groups

Although the Flu was everywhere in January, we had little problem waiting until February to get together. Three men presented stories about local charities helping in the Hilton Head area; Hilton Head Hospital Auxiliary, Hilton Head Heros and Full Spectrum Studio. All three are listed in the organization section of NEWS on the website for further information.

Between the 100 Men, the Heritage Classic Foundation and members making additional contributions, we collectively donated the following amounts:

  • $12,632 for the Hilton Head Hospital Auxiliary
  • $1,600 for the Full Spectrum Studio
  • $1,150 for the Hilton Head Heros

October Meeting

The quarterly meeting was held on October 7th at Spanish Wells. The meeting started with the Director from the Boys and Girls Club sharing what was new and how the funds helped their program. We heard presentations for the Hilton Head Island Hospital Auxilliary, the Hilton Head High School Booster Club and the Hunger Coalition of the Low Country. Video recordings were taken and distributed to those unable to attend. Another close vote with the Hunger Coalition receiving the majority of the votes. We will schedule a check presentation to the charity in early November.
