VIM’s mission is to understand and serve the health and wellness needs of the medically underserved and their households, who live or work on Hilton Head and Daufuskie Islands.

VIM’s goal is to expand on food sustainability to compliment the medical dental and pharmacologic care delivered at Volunteers in Medicine.

Backpack Buddies

Hunger Coalition was nominated by Jackson Massey with their focus on the BPB. Backpack Buddies of Hilton Head was designed to fight weekend hunger and has grown to help children in all public schools on Hilton Head Island. Elementary aged children at partner schools receive nutritious food each Friday during the school year. Backpack Buddies of Hilton Head works to fill that gap by providing nutritious, child-friendly food for school children to take home over the weekend and older children to have during the week. Osprey Village

When Osprey Village Inc. formed in 2008, the founders aimed to create safe neighborhoods for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Initially focused on their own adult children, they soon realized the immense need in the Lowcountry. As word spread, inquiries poured in from across the country, transforming their vision from a few homes to full neighborhoods.

Pregnancy Center and Clinic of the Low Country 

Our mission is to provide pregnancy related healthcare to women in a welcoming, safe and confidential setting.

Medical care provided by advanced practice registered nurse/midwife; nursing staff, professional counselor, interpreters.  Services provided include pregnancy/STI testing,  ultrasound, vitamins, 16 weeks of prenatal care, and counseling. EIN#57-0923523

Meals on Wheels

Delivery of meals to homebound clients in Hilton Head and Bluffton who lack capacity to prepare nutritious meals without regard to their ability to pay. Warm meals are delivered five days a week. We not only deliver meals, but we also make sure our clients are doing well as part of daily engagement with them.

Memory Matters

Since 1997, Memory Matters’ staff have provided memory care to Lowcountry families with compassion and understanding. Today, Memory Matters continues that care but has enhanced its service to educate the community, of all ages, on what can be done to keep the brain healthy, and what can be done to slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. It’s a balance of brain health education and memory care services. We are unique in the Lowcountry, and our expertise is unsurpassed. Memory Matters serves individuals living with Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia, caregivers, family and friends, and health professionals.

Hilton Head Hospital Auxiliary

HHIAux was nominated by Bob Elliott as a local opportunity to be selected in one of our next meetings. The Hilton Head Hospital Auxiliary provides communication and support for our nearly 200 volunteers and through our fundraising efforts, we assist people and families in our communities who are most in need.

Auxiliary programs have had a significant impact on thousands of people over the years.  Most importantly, our Nursing Scholarship Program is helping to address the nursing shortage which currently exists in the U.S, state of South Carolina, and Beaufort County.

The Children’s Center

The Children’s Center, Inc. is a unique not-for-profit organization that provides working families affordable and accessible early childhood education and childcare services. The Children’s Centers’ multicultural, bilingual early childhood education program is provided five days a week, year-round, from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Our goal is to provide a learning environment that enhances the multi-dimensional development of each child.

Second Helpings

Second Helpings is a nonprofit food rescue and distribution network striving to eliminate hunger and food waste in the South Carolina Lowcountry. We collect and distribute food which would have otherwise ended up in landfills, and provide it, free of charge, to more than 50 food pantries, soup kitchens and family and senior programs in Beaufort, Jasper, and Hampton counties. In 2022, we rescued and distributed 3.2 million pounds of food. Since 1992, we have distributed more than 47 million pounds of food for our neighbors who need it.
